Forget Me Not, Baby: a sweet and clean Christian romance. By Amy Lillard

It's time for some fun summer reads.  If you are looking for a nice clean romance be sure to add this one to your list. Escape to Texas with Forget Me Not, Baby, a book that will tug at your heartstrings.

From the excerpt:  Waite Harris has been dealt more than a few hard knocks the last few years. After his NFL career-ending injury and more than one bad investment, Waite finds himself unemployed, broke, and adrift. From there it is a short drop to rock bottom. Then Waite's ex-wife abandons his infant daughter on his doorstep. Now he's cleaned himself up and found the perfect place to raise his brown-eyed Lacy--in the sweet air of the Texas countryside on an ostrich ranch near a town with the unlikely name of Nowhere. But he needs a business partner to make it all come together. Enter Winston Jericho.

Sydney Jericho is not about to let some has-been shyster con her father into becoming partners in a run-down bird farm , located--literally--in Nowhere, Texas. Winston is obviously having a harder time dealing with his wife's death than Sydney had initially realized. But she has it all under control now; she's going to get her father from the ranch and take him back to Austin where he belongs.

After Sydney falls at the ranch and loses her memory, what's a father to do but use the miraculous situation to his own advantage? After all, it was nothing short of Divine intervention that Sydney concocts her own personal backstory including a marriage to Waite and the small detail that she is Lacy's mother.

It goes against every grain of Waite's being to allow Sydney to continue in her own reality, but the doctor insists that she will eventually remember the truth. Winston seems to think it's a fine idea to let it all happen in its own time, but Waite only promises a week. A week of pretending that she is his wife. A week of allowing her to believe that Lacy is her daughter. And a week to convince her that the ranch is where her father belongs.

But after that week...will Sydney forgive him the deception? Or will she consider their subterfuge unforgivable?

And what of the matter that he thinks he just might be falling in love with her?

Follow Waite Harris as he navigates the challenges of single parenthood and finding his place in the world again building up his run-down ranch with the help of partner Winston Jericho.

But when Sydney Jericho enters the picture, plans take an unexpected turn.  Thanks to a convenient accident she no longer remembers why she's there  Will she be able to resist the charm of Waite's little girl and the allure of a simpler life in Texas when she remembers?

Find out in this well-written and heartwarming tale of love and second chances. Let Forget Me Not, baby remind you that no matter how far you may fall, redemption and love are always within reach. A great summer read!  Happy reading!

One More Time For Joy (The Paradise Valley Series) by Amy Lillard

Joy Lehman has pressed on faithfully since losing her husband, raising their children, and running a thriving bakery alone. Even caring for her oldest son, Johnny—seriously injured after a fall—has not shaken her fierce independence. Johnny will walk again, she’s sure. Until then, a meeting of the Widows’ Club at her home makes it clear that Joy must consider some costly renovations. Her brother-in-law, Uriah, is happy to provide the lumber and the labor—if Joy will accept his help.

Uriah understands family challenges—he’s a widower himself, and father to four daughters. Yet he can see that Joy’s struggle lies deeper than house repairs, in learning to accept an altered future for her son. As Uriah’s daughters begin helping in the bakery, and Joy and Uriah’s bond grows deeper, a new possibility glows bright—the unexpected happiness that lies in embracing one strong, united family, filled with support and love . . .

Every book in this series just gets better and better.  Joy is struggling with raising her children alone.  Her oldest is in a wheelchair and the house just isn't accessible to him.  Despite the doctor's predictions that he will remain wheelchair-bound, Joy is convinced he will walk in time.

Uriah, her brother-in-law steps in to help and build an accessible home.  His daughters even start helping out as well.  Uriah begins to have feelings for Joy but Joy doesn't seem to return them.

The kinner decide to take matters into their own hands and what ensues is a bit of chaos, comedy and maybe a second chance at love.  With a great storyline and plot twists this was a great book in an already great series.

So pick up your copy of One More Time For Joy and dive into a great book.  Happy Reading!

The Amish Matchmaker (Paradise Valley) by Amy Lillard

What happens when an Amish writer is mistaken for a matchmaker?

While most women her age are searching for husbands, Astrid Kauffman has chosen a different path—writing romance novels and donating her profits to her beloved Amish community. But when Astrid struggles with writer’s block, she agrees to play matchmaker for Imogene Yoder, a widowed mother of rambunctious twin boys. Perhaps the diversion—and the entrée it gives Astrid to the stories among the Widows’ Club—will spark her creativity . . .

Fortunately, Astrid has just the match for Imogene: a widower she believes is the finest, most handsome man in town. In fact, Astrid realizes he’s perfect . . . for herself! Soon, the plot thickens as Imogene questions what kind of marriage she really wants, and Astrid wonders what kind of matchmaker falls for someone else’s match. But by letting faith guide the way, all involved may discover true love has written a far better next chapter than any of them expected . . .

Astrid is in a writers slump and thinks that Imogene is the answer to her prayers. Bumbling through and pretending to be a matchmaker sets the scene for chaos, laughter, and the mischief of two adorable twins who have their own matchmaking agenda.

Amy Lillard delivers another amazing book with likable characters and a fun, easy read.

I found the book to be engaging and fun.  There were a few parts that were a little slow, but overall it was a great read.  Amy has a way of bringing characters to life and showing the Amish as real people with problems just like everyone else.

So pick up your copy of the Amish Matchmaker and enjoy a lighthearted and fun story!  Happy Reading.

Dairy, Dairy, Quite Contrary by Amy Lillard

It's summer time and I am ready to start the book kick off with a cozy mystery.

This super cute cover alone got me excited but the story is really great as well.  From the back: Looking for a fresh start, advice columnist Sissy Yoder heads to small-town Yoder, Kansas, to help in her aunt’s café. But when a milkman is murdered, the newcomer becomes the prime suspect .

After Sissy’s rodeo cowboy boyfriend turns out to be more of a rodeo clown, she packs a bag; picks up her Yorkshire terrier Duke; and leaves Tulsa, Oklahoma, bound for her parents’ former hometown. There are still plenty of Yoders in Yoder, Kansas, including Sissy’s aunt Bethel, who owns the Sunflower Café but recently broke her leg. It’s a homecoming of sorts as Sissy arrives to help in the café and reunite with her pregnant cousin Lizzie. Plus she can continue to secretly write her newspaper advice column as seventy-year-old “Aunt Bess.” But it’s Sissy who could use some advice when she finds the milk deliveryman out behind the café with a knife in his back. As the sheriff’s prime suspect, it’s up to Sissy to catch the backstabber herself—before someone else gets creamed . . .

Amy Lillard begins a new cozy mystery series with some great characters.  There was a good mix of Amish and English characters and a very adorable Yorkie.  Sissy was a great character as well and I enjoyed getting to know her through the story.

The book did slow down a bit and felt drawn out at times but started to pull together and become more animated as the story progressed.  I enjoyed the twists and turns and surprises.

Overall this was a good book and I enjoyed the quick cozy read.  So pick up a copy of Dairy, Dairy, Quite Contrary and enjoy a fun summer read!  Happy Reading!

Forever Boy by KT Swenson

In the world I live in there are so many parents who sit in the shadows and never share what a diagnosis does to change the family dynamic.  KT Swenson took a bold step and changed that.

In Forever Boy KT Swenson makes her debut with a moving memoir about how Autism changed a whole family dynamic.

This is a not to miss read.  Ms. Swenson did not shy away from the hard topics that a child with dynamic needs can bring into a family.  From divorce, specialists blowing Cooper off, to a broken educational system you have a rare window into the lives of what thousands of families go through on a day to day basis.

But the overarching theme of the book is the author's ability to choose joy.  She could have quit.  But she never stopped looking for resources, support, and people who walked alongside of the family cheering them on.

So pick up a copy of Forever Boy and be prepared to laugh, cry, and learn about a very special little boy and an amazing mother who never took no for an answer.

Happy Reading!

Her Amish Identity (Amish Amnesia Romance) by Jennifer Spredeman

Her Amish Identity by Jennifer Spredman is her former book, Love Impossible-Amish Dreams renamed and relaunched.

From the back cover: A troubled home. An altered identity. And a second chance at love.

Sarah isn't who she thinks she is...

When amnesiac Sarah discovers she was Amish in the life she no longer remembers, her life is turned upside down. She has an Englisch family now—a husband and two daughters. But what happens when she discovers she also has an Amish family, which includes an Amish husband and kinner?

When secrets are revealed and lies are unraveled, she can no longer trust those who should have protected her in her most vulnerable moments. As she pieces together her past life, she feels torn between two worlds. Can God use this impossible situation for His glory?

An Amish romance you won’t soon forget—no pun intended!

Warning some spoilers in this review:

This book has a lot going for it.  I am an avid reader of Amish stories and you don't see amnesia in a lot of the story lines.  I was interested to see how the story would unfold when Sarah finds out she has two husbands and families.

Sarah was a well thought out character and the author really invested a lot of time bringing her to life.  I was very drawn in and had a hard time putting the book down through the beginning and middle.  She was caught between two families and you could truly feel her pain and hurt trying to make the best decision.

Then the book hit some bumps.  As the story progressed Sarah's current husband simply dumped her and sent her packing taking the kids with him. It was actually quite jarring and felt a bit out of step with how the story was unfolding.  It basically forced Sarah into going back to her first husband.  Which honestly, she may have done anyway.  It made the story line a bit bumpy and random for me.

After that things smoothed out and the book found it's rhythm again and the story settled back down.  The story ended strong and loose ends in the middle were fixed.

So pick up your copy of Her Amish Identity (releasing on Jan 21st).  Happy Reading!

A New Love For Charlotte (The Wells Landing Series) by Amy Lillard

It's been a wild ride here lately and I have been rather quiet in the review department.  My youngest has now been in the hospital for two months but there is now light at the end of the tunnel and we are adjusting to our new normals.

The good news is that I had plenty of time to read and burned through my stack of TBR.

The even better news is I got to visit my favorite fictional place, Wells Landing.

From the back: Renewed faith and happiness await three generations of women in this heartwarming series from Amy Lillard, set in the Oklahoma Amish community of Wells Landing...

With her daughter newly married, widow Charlotte Burkhart should have been content to find a companion for her later years in Amish widower Glenn Esh. Yet, Charlotte longs for more than life has offered her thus far. When she discovers a baby on her doorstep, the child seems like the miracle Charlotte's been praying for. Unfortunately, Glenn doesn't feel the same way. What's a single woman aching to experience motherhood once more to do?

From the moment Paul Brenneman sees Charlotte Burkhart with a new baby, he senses his lovely neighbor and the sweet child are meant to be. Which is why he offers to marry Charlotte and make her adoption dreams come true. No stranger to heartache himself, the stalwart widower knows second chances don't happen every day--especially not with a woman like Charlotte, the first woman in a long time who has him taking a leap of faith that happily-ever-after is still possible...

I just love Wells Landing.  Amy Lillard writes Amish romance, but she also writes about real situations and problems.  Charlotte's struggles as a parent with a special needs child and fear of being alone really touched me.  Charlotte tries desperately to command control over her life instead of handing it over to God.

What's a strong willed Amish woman to do?

With iron determination Charlotte is a force to be reckoned with, but will she loose her chance at happiness?

This is another must read in the Wells Landing series.  You will visit old friends and learn what happens to a very special baby, a strong willed Amish woman, and the two men who vie for her attention. So pick up your copy of A New Love For Charlotte and enjoy visiting Wells Landing.  Happy Reading!

Romancing Nadine by Amy Lillard (Wells Landing 10)

I am so excited!!  I get to go back to my favorite fictional town, Wells Landing.

In the next installment of the Wells Landing Series we get to know Nadine better.  From the description: In this heartwarming series from Amy Lillard, three generations of women find the Oklahoma Amish community of Wells Landing a heaven-sent opportunity to take new leaps of faith . . .

Wife, widow, mother, and grandmother—sixty-something Nadine Burkhart is everything a sensible Amish woman is supposed to be. She’s moved to Wells Landing to give her daughter and granddaughter a fresh start—not herself. So as far as she’s concerned, good-hearted farmer Amos Fisher should find something better to do than try to draw her out, be there when she needs help—and make her believe in love for the first time . . .

A friendly but solitary man, Amos is realizing there’s more to life than work. Although he hasn’t courted in years, Nadine’s honesty makes him long to know her better—and understand her standoffishness. But when everything he tries fails to soften her stubbornness, he’ll just have to trust his heart that real, true, and utterly impractical love will prevail—for a lifetime…

This series just gets better and better.  Wells Landing really is my happy place.  I really liked the fact that this romance was between seniors.  Amos sees Nadine and is smitten by the love bug for the first time.  Nadine has already been a widow and thinks Amos is off his rocker.

What ensues is a sweet, funny, and entertaining love chase.  With lifelike characters and realistic situations the story will draw you in and keep you wondering if poor Amos will ever win Nadine's heart.

So take a trip back to Wells Landing and pick up Romancing Nadine.  Happy Reading!

Heart of a Warrior by Angela K. Couch

All Christina Astle wants is to reach Oregon before her baby is born, but the wagon train is attacked, and her husband killed, stranding her in a mountain labyrinth. Raised in the East, within civilization’s embrace, survival is not a skill she’s learned. Neither is evading the lone warrior dogging her trail.

Disgusted by the greed and cruelty of men like his white father, Towan has turned to the simpler existence of his mother’s tribal people. He is not prepared for the fiery woman who threatens to upturn his entire life … and his heart.
Heart of a Warrior is Angela Couch's new book and I once again find myself spellbound by her writing.  She brings history to life in her books and adds her own beautiful story to it.

Two very different people from very different walks of life, Christina and Towan, are thrown together in a journey of faith and trust.  Can they find a way to connect their two very different worlds?

With a rich historical backdrop, a beautiful love story, and lots of action, Heart of a Warrior will keep you engaged.   If you are a historical fiction fan this is a must read!   So pick up your copy on August 14th here.  Happy Reading!

His Pretend Amish Bride (Unexpected Amish Blessings Book 2) by Rachel J. Good

It's summertime and time to pull out some take wherever you need to go books.  For me it's my new back deck.  When we moved from Virginia to Minnesota and then moved again from a rental to a home we bought I lost my front porch and swing.  So to have a place to read good books and relax is a blessing!
This is the second book in Rachel Good's series.  From the excerpt:
In a small Amish town like picturesque Lancaster, Pennsylvania, one solution to an indiscretion is to make a good marriage. Or perhaps, fake a respectable engagement . . .

Priscilla Ebersol has a fulfilling life teaching special needs children—until her boyfriend’s humiliating betrayal ruins her reputation and threatens her job. Ostracized for something she didn’t do, Priscilla throws herself into a project on the benefits of camel’s milk for autism. Her research leads her to a fledgling local camel farm, where she discovers far more than she bargained for . . .

When a pushy Englisch company shows interest in shy, handsome Gabriel Kauffman’s camel farm, he struggles to get out of a sticky negotiation. Lovely, well-spoken Priscilla appears at the perfect moment, and defends Gabe’s business so well that she is mistaken for his wife. It’s a ruse the two quietly continue, all the while secretly wishing it could be true. But though their bond deepens, Priscilla’s heart is still wounded, and Gabe battles with a troubling secret. And when a misunderstanding comes between them, it will take faith, honesty, and trust in the future to overcome the past—and allow their partnership to blossom into something more . . .

This was a really good read.  Priscilla was betrayed by her boyfriend and he was rotten.  Priscilla is hurt and her job is threatened by the scandal.  She works with special needs children, which I thought was pretty awesome.  It was nice to see a character in an Amish book in a unique job.  So she ends up at the new local camel farm.

Gabe was a really well thought out character.  He also had a unique job (camel farmer) and it was easy for me to picture him walking down the street in town.

With mystery, betrayal, twists and turns this was a hard book to put down.  It's getting a special shelf place (as soon as I unpack them!) and I plan on reading it again.  So pick up your copy of His Pretend Amish Bride (available June 30th) and enjoy a unique Amish story.  Happy Reading!

The Crow's Call (Amish Greenhouse Mystery #1) by Wanda E. Brunstetter

I always like it when you take a typical genre and flip it around.  Wanda Brunstetter has been doing this for a long time with her Amish fiction.

From the back:  Mysterious Events Plague a Greenhouse in Pennsylvania’s Amish Country

When Vernon King, his son, and son-in-law are involved in a terrible accident, three women are left to cope with their deaths, as they become the sole providers of the family they have left. The women’s only income must come from the family greenhouse, but someone seems to be trying to force them out of business.

Amy King has just lost her father and brother, and her mother needs her to help run the family’s greenhouse. It doesn’t seem fair to ask her to leave a job she loves, when there is still a sister and brother to help. But Sylvia is also grieving for her husband while left to raise three children, and Henry, just out of school, is saddled with all the jobs his father and older brother used to do. As Amy assumes her new role, she also asks Jared Riehl to put their courtship on hold. When things become even more stressful at the greenhouse, will Amy crumble under the pressure?

This was such a good book!  Brunstetter has really found her calling and every book just gets better and better.  I love how she take the day to day and turn it into such good books.  Who is causing all the trouble for the King family?

I enjoyed reading it because of the strength of their faith and how the family works through their grief while still remembering past joys. I am interested to find out if the crow is really a symbol of foreboding or is there more going on?  Brunstetter allows the characters to struggle with life just like real people do and find hope. Enjoy this great first book in the series and be sure to keep an eye out for book two, The Mockingbird's Song.  Happy Reading!

Promise at Pebble Creek (Hope Chest of Dreams #6) by Lisa Jones Baker

I love a good series and am always excited to read the next book.  Hope Chest of Dreams has been amazing but like all good things it has come to the end with the last book in the series.
From the back: Amish country girl Hannah Lapp lives for adventure—the kind found in favorite novels and the stories she secretly writes. And at her family’s popular tourist store, she’s fascinated by the different Englischers she meets. Especially when Marcus Jackson comes to town. She’s sure there’s more to the ex-city boy than his quiet, helpful ways, and she’s curious to find out just what it is . . .

Marcus fled Chicago before his brothers’ life of crime ruined his future. He’s not sure exactly why God’s plan brought him to this quaint little town. Or why his growing friendship with the bubbly, inquisitive Hannah has him trusting her with his past. But when local stores are robbed and suspicion falls on Marcus, can he and Hannah come together to prove his innocence—and make their own happy-ever-after ending?

I always love going back to Pebble Creek and revisiting friends while making new ones. The characters were well done and there was a good mystery plot as well. The storyline does a great job of addressing the issue of struggling with faith and looking to God for guidance and having faith.

So will Marcus and Hannah be able to rely on God's answers and promises?  You will have to pick up a copy of the book and find out!  Happy reading!

Loving Jenna by Amy Lillard

I am alway so excited when I get a book in a favorite series.  I get to go back to one of the places I wish I lived, Wells Landing.
From the back: In this new novel set in the beloved Oklahoma Amish community of Wells Landing, three generations of women challenge themselves and each other to make a fresh start in faith, family--and love.

Jenna Burkhart is tired of being "special" and hearing about what she can't do. Even though she suffered a head injury in a childhood swimming accident, she wants a life of her own just like any Amish woman. But now that she, her mamm, and her mammi have moved to Wells Landing, she's having a hard time fitting in. . . . Until she meets Buddy Miller, a boy just like her, who gives her the confidence to reach for the impossible . . .

Like Jenna, Buddy is used to being the boy no one expects much from, the one people see as "different." Still, being around Jenna's lively, kind-hearted ways makes him strive ever-harder to become the self-sufficient Amish man she deserves. But in the face of family disapproval and their own fears, will Jenna and Buddy's courage be enough to give them a forever happiness together?

So not only is this book set in my favorite corner of the fiction world it also touches on topics near and dear to my heart.  INCLUSION and REPRESENTATION.  There are not a lot of stories that represent people of the disabilities community.  People like my children.

This book shows that people with disabilities want what everyone else wants.  A normal life.  The main characters, Jenna and Buddy, don't want to be seen as "special".  They want to work, fall in love, and get married.  But just like real life, things don't always run smoothly.  Jenna and Buddy's mamms are having a hard time letting go.

Overall this book touched a really special place in my heart.  Amy Lillard really did an excellent job with the characters and representing and including characters with disabilities.  It was so awesome to see them take the main stage as well.  I really hope she writes more about Jenna and Buddy.

So take a trip back to Wells Landing and pick up Loving Jenna.  Happy Reading!

City Sparrows and Who Fed Them by Ruth Nadelman Lynn

There are books hidden in plain site that no one knows about.
Lamplighter finds books from a bygone time and brings them back to life and print.

Join Zetta and her brother Harry in a cold, drafty garret as they learn that not even a sparrow falls to the ground without God seeing.  Follow burdened Margaret as she learns that suffering produces patience, patience produces experience, and experience produces hope. Watch as they discover together that “all things work together for good to those who love God.”

In a wretched part of town, filth and refuse add to the foul odor that pervades the air.  Zetta shivers in her threadbare rags as she tries to soothe her sick brother.  When their father was alive, they lived in the beautiful country with fields and flowers. But now mother is no help, for she has sunken into the lowest depths of drunkenness.

In such a pitiful setting, is there any hope of redemption? Who cares about this dirty child and her woes?  Zetta finds the answer in the minister’s story about a God who cares when even a sparrow falls to the ground.  How much more does He care about her?

While the reader may never know the darkness of Zetta’s world, we all experience some degree of tribulation. Rest assured that God is our refuge and strength – a very present help in time of trouble.

The story focuses on Zetta and her brother Harry as they are left to struggle with an alcoholic mother, little money, and even less hope.  Harry remembers better days with their deceased father.

For the most part I enjoyed the story.  It's a very simple allegory of how the heavenly Father loves and cares for us.  He rescues us from poverty and rags restoring us and giving us a family.  The characters were well written and several story lines blended together really well.

There were some parts that were not enjoyable and really ruined a nice story (spoiler alert).  Zetta and Harry's mother dies and the children were assured that it was better this way as she would have been a cripple.  Having a daughter who has Cerebral Palsy I was not real thrilled about that.  It devalued human life and ruined part of a great book.  I wish that this would have been rephrased or left out all together.  Sending a negative message about disability, no matter the era or time, is not Christian.

Overall, this book was an OK read and as stated, does have some really good points.  you can purchase the book here.  Happy Reading!

Update:  After trying to place my review on the Lamplighter website I was contacted by Lamplighter and they stated they were going to remove the statement.  If it is taken out I have no issues fully recommending this story.

Amish Front Porch Stories by Wanda, Jean, and Richelle Brunstetter

We have been socked with snow here in Minnesota!  So it's a perfect time to get caught up on my reading.
I was so excited to start reading this book.  From the back: Come and sit awhile as you enjoy 18 fictional short stories of love, joy, and the peace found in Amish country.

Amish Country is known for an atmosphere of peace and quiet, perfect for front-porch sitting with a good book. Join New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter, her daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, as they share 18 heartwarming stories from Amish Country. These fictional short stories include journeys we can all relate to as we seek how to live led by love, joy, peace, patience, and other Fruits of the Spirit. Meet Anna, who struggles to show love to a cantankerous neighbor; Laura, who endures infertility; Nora, whose pride threatens to consume her life; and other women who walk in their faith each day.

I just really love when family comes together and makes something spectacular.  This book and the stories in it are really special.  These stories are uplifting and based on the fruits of the spirit.  You can curl up and read these one by one or all in one sitting.

The story that touched me the most was Laura's Choice.  After years of struggling with my own infertility I really felt Laura's heartache and how hard it is to wait and be patient.  It is hard to wait on the Lord when we want things now!  Reading this story took me back many years ago and through many emotions.  Thankfully Laura and I both had happy endings!

This was just such a good book.  Pair it with scripture and you can use this book for daily devotions.  When I get to pick at our bookclub this is the book I will be choosing!  So pick up your copy today and enjoy the beautiful stories celebrating community, faith, and love.  Happy reading.

Can't Judge A Book by it's Murder by Amy Lillard

There is something about a mystery book, especially when you mention it's a cozy mystery that gets everyone excited.
Most people who know me know that I normally avoid mysteries but I am starting to come around to cozy ones.  Amy Lillard delivers and fun and entertaining read in the first of a new series: Not every murder is by the book…

As Sugar Springs gears up for its all-class high school reunion, Mississippi bookstore owner Arlo Stanley prepares to launch her largest event: a book-signing with the town’s legendary alum and bestselling author, Wally Harrison. That’s when Wally is discovered dead outside of Arlo’s front door and her best friend is questioned for the crime.

When the elderly ladies of Arlo’s Friday Night Book Club start to investigate, Arlo has no choice but to follow behind to keep them out of trouble. Yet with Wally’s reputation, the suspect list only grows longer—his betrayed wife, his disgruntled assistant, even the local man who holds a grudge from a long-ago accident.

Between running interference with the book club and otherwise keeping it all together, Arlo anxiously works to get Chloe out of jail. And amidst it all, her one-time boyfriend-turned-private-eye returns to town, just another distraction while she digs to uncover the truth around Wally’s death and just what Sugar Springs secret could have led to his murder.

This was a well written and had great flowing dialogue.  I loved the small town feel and the set of characters, there will be plenty pf chances for more books in the series. Arlo is quirky and I enjoyed her a lot more as the story went on.

Now there were a few parts that didn't flow together as well as I would have liked, and I did figure out who did it.  But overall it was still a fun story and a good fast paced read.  I will be interested in seeing this series evolve!

So pick up your copy of Amy Lillard's new book (releasing on the 29th this month) and enjoy a fun new read!  Happy reading!

Love At Pebble Creek (Hope Chest of Dreams #5) by Lisa Jones Baker

I truly love when I can go back and visit a favorite fictional place and the people who make up that world.

So when I had a chance to review Lisa Baker's book and peek in on the people of Pebble Creek I jumped at the chance.  From the back: In Lisa Jones Baker's heartwarming series, precious hand-carved chests hold treasured dreams--and bring blessings to a new generation ...

Anna King has a talent--and a secret. Like the birth mother she never knew, Anna is gifted at sketching and longs to study and teach art one day. Unbeknownst to her beloved adoptive family, she's even entered a contest to win a full scholarship to art college. Sketching isn't a desirable vocation in her community, so Anna does her work in a remote spot by Pebble Creek and stores it in her beautiful hope chest. Only her family's farmhand, Jesse Beiler, knows her plans--and that's by accident ...

The bishop's son, Jessie is surprised to discover Anna's contest entry form. He can't imagine wanting a life beyond having his own farm and raising a family. Still, he admires Anna's spirit and promises to keep her secret, despite their differences. Yet the better he and Anna get to know each other, the more they find their personalities--and their hearts--complement one another. With Gott's guidance, can they forge the futures they desire--together?

Anna and Jessie are great characters and well written.  Being adopted (and having adopted) I can identify with Anna's feelings of not fitting in and struggling to find what world she belongs in.  With a secret laying heavy on her heart can she figure out what she needs to do? Jessie is confident and admires Anna.  But can he convince her to stay?

With some unexpected twists and turns this enjoyable story brings us back to Pebble Creek and well written with truly enjoyable characters you will want to pick up your copy of Love at Pebble Creek to enjoy.  Happy reading!

The Healing Jar (The Prayer Jars #3) by Wanda E. Brunstetter

When you find a good series it's hard to have it come to an end.

The final installment of the Prayer Jar Series was one I looked forward to and was not disappointed!  From the back:  What if you have waited to find love only to be rejected when it finally comes?

Lenore Lapp is an Amish schoolteacher in her late twenties still living at home with her parents and grandparents. She thought love had passed her by until she meets Jesse Smucker, a widower with a baby daughter. She quickly falls in love with them both and accepts Jesse's proposal of marriage, but Jesse breaks off their engagement when he realizes he can't marry only for convenience.

Resigned to living single, Lenore throws herself into caring for her elders. While working in her grandmother's garden, she digs up an old jar. Will Lenore find healing for her broken heart and solve long-buried family secrets by reading the note contained inside?

This was such a good ending to a beautifully written series.  I would not recommend reading this as a stand alone since you miss story and character development as the series unfolds.  Also it ties up several other story lines neatly.

Lenore does not have an easy path.  In a complex and compelling plot will Lenore find the love she is longing for?  Will a special jar help?

This was truly a wonderful wrap up to the series.  From like-able realistic characters and situations to overarching themes of love, faith, and trust, this has been a great series to be immersed in.

So pick up your copy of The Healing Jar and enjoy another great story by a great story teller!

Happy Reading!

The Return of the King's Ranger (Hearts at War #4) by Angela K. Couch

It has been super busy here.  I've moved from my home in Virginia all the way to Minnesota.  I'm missing my front porch swing and good sweet tea, but I'm thankful to have good books to keep me company!

Angela Couch has done a wonderful job with the next book in the Hearts at War series.  I have really enjoyed them all and hate to see it end!  From the back:  The war for American freedom is over, and the British have gone back to England. Not knowing what has become of his family since he was forced into the Continental Army nine years earlier, Myles Cunningham wants to go home as well. He returns to the Mohawk Valley with the understanding that he is believed to have been shot for deserting—fiction that might be made real if anyone recognizes him as the son of a Tory and a King's Ranger.

Everything is wonderful in the growing community along the Mohawk River, except Nora Reid is still alone. With her brother happily settled and both her younger sisters starting families of their own, Nora feels the weight of her twenty-four years. A long walk leads her to the overgrown rubble of the Cunningham homestead where a bearded stranger begins to awaken feelings she'd lost hope of ever experiencing.

With secrets abounding—including whether Myles even cares for her—Nora must determine what she is ready to give up and how far she will go to secure his affections. She begins to break through his defenses, but Myles can't risk staying. Not if he loves her.

I really enjoy a good historical series, especially one so well researched and written.  Her grasp of the time period enriches the story so wonderfully. Everything is so real and vivid in the way she paints her words.

Myles and Nora were wonderfully written.  Myles was complex and you feel the romantic tension between the two.  There were so many obstacles that it keeps you turning pages to see if they will ever get together.

If you are looking for a great historical story with lots of surprises, themes of forgiveness and redemption, and a beautiful love story then you definitely want to check out The Return of the King's Ranger!

Happy Reading!
